Crown Prince to deliver Jordan’s address at Arab Summit on Wednesday

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II is slated to arrive in Algeria on Tuesday evening, deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah in heading Jordan’s delegation at the 31st Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level.

Crown Prince Al Hussein will deliver Jordan’s address at the summit on Wednesday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi represented Jordan at the summit’s opening session on Tuesday.

Leaders International concludes digital work, freelance project

Leaders International has concluded its Digital Avenue project in Jordan, which is financed by the United States Department of State to give Jordanian talents access to the global digital market.

The project supported hundreds of Jordanian youths through building their freelance digital work skills, which can help overcome external challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to their flexibility, according to a statement issued Tuesday by Leaders International, adding that it seeks to involve and employ youth in developing countries with high poverty and unemployment rates.

The statement noted that the project, which commenced on October 2020, trained more than 1,400 people, of whom 500 were equipped with the needed digital work skills to jumpstart their online freelancing careers, and developed 10 digiwork agencies that became able to submit for tenders of large, global projects.

These 10 companies, of which 60 percent are led by women, received training, instructions, and financial and technical support. They managed to create more than 60 job opportunities and make profit of more than $65,000.

King meets US, UK defence officials in Aqaba

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met in Aqaba with Commander of US Special Operations Command Gen. Bryan P. Fenton, and UK Chief of Defence Staff’s Senior Adviser to the Middle East and North Africa Air Marshal Martin Sampson.

The separate meetings, held on the sidelines of the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference SOFEX 2022 and attended by His Royal Highness Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II, covered means of enhancing Jordan’s cooperation with the United States and the United Kingdom in the fields of military and defence.

The meetings also addressed the importance of SOFEX in enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise among the participating countries on issues related to special forces and defence industries.

Moreover, discussions covered regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic approach.

King inaugurates SOFEX 2022 in Aqaba

His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Tuesday inaugurated the Special Operations Exhibition, within the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference SOFEX 2022, in Aqaba.

King Abdullah was received by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hneiti.

Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) CEO and SOFEX Jordan General Manager Brig. Gen. Ayman Batran said the conference, under His Majesty’s leadership, has become an international hub for exhibiting the latest technologies affiliated with special forces.

For his part, King Abdullah II Special Forces Group Commander Col. Nael Shugeirat expressed appreciation for the King’s continuous support, which enabled JAF to build strong partnerships with a number of countries, highlighting the importance of SOFEX in enhancing international cooperation in the development of defence industries.

His Majesty also attended a JAF drill on the southern shore of Aqaba held as part of the SOFEX opening ceremony.

The King, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II, toured the exhibition, which features the latest equipment and technologies in defence and security used by elite and special forces worldwide, including in defence, planning, organisation, and training.

A special pavilion for JAF and security agencies showcases their military, technical, and training capabilities, and highlights their international role in peace-keeping forces and joint drills, as well as the key products and equipment they oversee in terms of manufacturing and distribution.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Hneiti, General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni, and Public Security Directorate Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah accompanied His Majesty on the tour.

The four-day event kicked off its 13th edition on Monday in Aqaba with the Middle East Special Operations Commanders Conference

This year’s SOFEX features the participation of over 300 companies in the field of defence and weapon manufacturing from 38 countries, in addition to delegations from 98 countries, and 13 pavilions for participating countries.

The event features specialised workshops, discussions, and live shows, in addition to private meetings and signing of agreements.

Jordan offers condolences to Iran over Shiraz attack victims

Jordan on Tuesday offered its condolences to Iran over the victims of the terrorist attack that took place in the city of Shiraz and was claimed by the terrorist organization of Daesh.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, sent a cable of condolences to his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in which he reaffirmed the Kingdom’s condemnation and total rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism, expressing sincere condolences to Iran and the Iranian people, and wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

King meets Kuwaiti, Saudi defence officials in Aqaba

His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday met with Kuwaiti Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Al Abdullah Al Sabah, and Saudi Minister of National Guard Prince Abdullah bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in separate meetings held on the sidelines of the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference SOFEX 2022 in Aqaba.

The meetings, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II, covered means of expanding Jordan’s military and defence cooperation with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, to enhance regional security and stability.

Discussion also addressed the opportunities that SOFEX provides in showcasing the latest innovations in the field of defence, as well as exchanging expertise among participating countries.

PSD chief meets heads of police delegations participating in SOFEX

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah on Tuesday received heads of police delegations participating in the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference SOFEX 2022.

At the headquarters of the SOFEX conference, Maaytah met with police delegations from the New York, German, French, Italian and Turkish police, as well as police delegations from the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Palestine and the Palestinian Civil Defense.

The PSD director welcomed the delegations and thanked them for accepting the PSD’s invitation and for participating in this global event hosted by the southern city of Aqaba.

In the meeting, Maaytah underlined the PSD’s openness to work in a participatory approach to enhance security and peace in the region and the world, reflecting royal directives and the constant endeavor to open up to the police apparatuses in those countries.

The PSD is also keen on benefiting from the exchange of expertise and experiences with them in various fields of police work, especially in the training, technical and technology fields, the PSD chief added.

“Global conditions and development of crimes oblige us to work together to confront them, especially emerging and cross-border crimes and drug trafficking,” Maaytah noted.

For their part, heads of delegations stressed the importance of participating in the SOFEX 2022 conference, which allowed them to examine other countries’ expertise in security and training fields.

They said they are looking forward to consolidate further cooperation with the PSD, build on the history of cooperation and open a broader horizon in various areas of police and security work.

RJAF signs agreement to purchase 10 US Bell 505 helicopters

The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) and Bell Textron Inc., an American aerospace manufacturer, signed an agreement to purchase 10 Bell 505 helicopters, as part of the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference SOFEX 2022, which kicked off on Tuesday in the Aqaba Governorate, in the presence of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hneiti.

The agreement, signed by RJAF Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Hiyasat and Patrick Moulay, Bell Textron’s senior vice president, International Commercial Sales, includes the delivery of the aircraft with a flight training device and a comprehensive computer-based training package to enable an enhanced approach to basic and advanced rotorcraft flight training.

The signing was attended by the US ambassador, representatives of the Embassy of Canadian in Jordan, and senior officers of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).

31st Arab Summit kicks off in Algeria

The 31st Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level, kicked off on Tuesday evening in Algiers with the participation of leaders and heads of delegations of the participating countries.

The summit will discuss a number of files on its agenda, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, crises in the Arab region, terrorism and its impact on the region, Arab food security, the energy crisis, and other topics.

At the opening session, Tunisian President Kais Saied, former president of the 30th Arab Summit, handed the presidency of the current summit in its 31st session over to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

In his opening speech at the summit, Tebboune said : “The summit is being held under extremely complex regional and international circumstances, especially in light of unprecedented crises that our today world and contemporary history have experienced,” adding: “crises are still before us with challenges still maximzing.”

“Our Arab region has enormous potentials and resources that qualify us to be effective in the world as an economic power, and confidence must be restored in order to influence the global scene and the international economy.”

He added, “I look forward to forming a committee during the summit to support the Palestinian cause,” adding: “Palestine must be granted its full membership in the United Nations that must be called upon to achieve this Arab demand.”

Tebboune said, “Crises in Libya, Syria and Yemen are still pending a solution, and we call for national reconciliation in these countries in order to achieve the peoples’ aspirations for freedom and dignity.”

JAF organizes preliminary agreement on National Cyber Security

The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) on Tuesday announced the organization of a preliminary agreement for the second phase of the national cybersecurity project with Mandiant, an American cybersecurity firm and a subsidiary of Google.

The announcement was made on the first day of the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference SOFEX 2022, in Aqaba, in the presence of the Assistant for Planning and Organization, Brigadier General Dr. Yousef Al-Khatib.

The agreement is seen as the foundation for establishing a strategic partnership in the field of cybersecurity as well as enhancing and expanding the system at the national level for various industries.

Mandent is an expert in the field of cyber security and assists companies and government organizations in improving their readiness to fight against and respond to cyber-attacks as well as enhance their confidence and capabilities to do so.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the US military attache and ambassador in Amman, and several JAF senior officers.
