POPE FRANCIS CALLS ON RUSSIA & UKRAINE TO STOP THE FIGHTING, CONFIRMS HIS WILLINGNESS TO MEDIATE

Pope Francis urged Ukraine and Russia to stop hostilities, and expressed his readiness to send representatives to Moscow and Kiev to organize negotiations, according to “Russia Today” news agency. “Pope Francis calls on the parties to the Ukrainian conflict to stop offensive attempts and sit down at the negotiating table,” said Leonid Sevastyanov, head of the World Confederation of Old Believers (ARC), who recently held talks with the Pope. Pope Francis stressed that “the desires of the parties can only be fulfilled at the negotiating table and not on the battlefield.” Sevastyanov said that the Pope is ready, if Moscow and Kiev so wish, to send representatives at any time, to help start the negotiation process.

DERGHAM DISCUSSES WITH AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT SPEAKER RETURN OF DISPLACED SYRIANS

Member of the “Strong Lebanon” parliamentary bloc, MP Asaad Dergham, as part of his tour in Australia, visited Monday the House of Representatives in Victoria-Melbourne, where he held a meeting with Parliament Speaker Conseilmar Edward and Representative Brownie Half Bunny, in the presence of the Federal Coordinator Maroun El-Khoury. Discussions touched on various political issues, particularly the Syrian displacement. Dergham explained the risks that the displaced pose to Lebanon and the burdens resulting from their presence on Lebanese soul, in light of the current collapse and the suffocating financial crisis prevailing in the country. He stressed that “this matter has become a source of tension between the displaced and the host community in various regions.” Dergham, thus, called for “Australia’s support to Lebanon in international forums to find political solutions to return the displaced to their country and aid Lebanon in getting out of its crisis.”

The Supreme Council and the Badr Organization confirm the unity of the coordination framework and the compatibility of its components

The Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq and the Badr Organization affirmed the unity of the coordination framework, the existing state of harmony, and the compatibility of visions among its components in supporting government service achievement.

Council Chairman Hammam Hamoudi discussed, during his meeting today, Monday, with the head of the Badr Organization’s political bureau and a number of members of the leadership, developments in the political and governmental movement.

The two parties agreed on: “The unity of the components of the blocs and forces of the coordination framework is the guarantee of the government’s success in the process of correcting and developing reality, and enhancing opportunities for a decent life for the citizen.

The Sudan Doctors Syndicate announced that the number of civilian deaths since the beginning of the clashes has risen to 436, and the injured to 2175.

It said, according to Al-Jazeera satellite channel: All hospitals and health facilities in the city of El Geneina are still suspended until this moment.

Cavusoglu _Turkey evacuates nationals of 22 countries from Sudan

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that his country has evacuated 1,763 Turkish citizens from Sudan, along with 298 people from 22 other countries.

Cavusoglu added at the opening ceremony of a station for emergency medical services and a landing pad for ambulance helicopters in the southern state of Antalya: Turkey extended a helping hand to everyone who requested its assistance in Sudan, and we transferred citizens of foreign countries from Istanbul to their countries. I thank Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Egypt for their support.

In the same context, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that a Turkish armed forces plane that had come under fire in Sudan returned to the country on Sunday after taking the necessary measures.

Akar added, in a televised interview, “One of our C-130 planes landed at Wadi Sayedna Airport, north of Khartoum, and during the landing of our second plane, light gunfire occurred, despite that the plane landed safely.”

He explained that after taking the necessary measures, the plane returned yesterday, Sunday, to Turkey, stressing that all the planes in charge of evacuations completed their tasks and returned to the country, where the Turkish army planes evacuated 479 Turkish citizens.

A person accused of drug trade arrested in Babylon

The police forces arrested an accused of drug trafficking in Karbala.

A police statement stated: “The suspect was arrested in a tight ambush when he tried to enter the province coming from Babylon via the side roads, based on intelligence information.”

He added: “The accused was handed over to the Directorate for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances to take legal measures against him.
