5 labor contracts signed to benefit some 6,700 electricity workers

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Labor, the General Trade Union of Workers in Electricity (GTUWE) on Tuesday signed 5 collective labor contracts with the companies operating in the electricity generation and distribution sector. The contracts were inked with National Electric Power Company, National Electricity Company, Samra Electric Power CO., Irbid District Electricity Distribution Company, and Electricity Distribution Company. Speaking during the signing ceremony, Minister of Labor Dr. Khaled Bakkar, stressed the ministry's "keenness" to follow up on workers' affairs and communicate with the parties concerned in the production process, aimed to resolve collective labor disputes. The ministry, he noted, oversees resolution of labor disputes and enhances job stability and security for workers in private sector institutions to ensure continued operations. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of building "good" working relations among the three labor parties, involving the government, employers, a nd workers and providing a "positive" workplace. Bakkar said the ministry pushes direct employer-union negotiations and cooperation, which "positively" reflects on the work environment and job stability, and enhances worker confidence in their institutions. Meanwhile, GTUWE head, Fakhri Ajarmeh, said the contracts will positively reflect on about 6,700 workers in the target companies by improving annual salary increases and allowances.
