Amman: Jordan's clearance and freight transport companies processed 536,000 customs declarations during the first half of 2025, marking an increase from the 445,000 declarations made in the same period last year. These transactions, which include export, import, transit, and re-export, indicate a surge in activity across various customs centers. According to Jordan News Agency, the Omari Customs Center, which connects Jordan with Saudi Arabia, processed the largest number of declarations, totaling 130,887. Aqaba's customs centers followed with 95,493 declarations, while Queen Alia International Airport and Amman processed 86,747 and 45,165 declarations, respectively. The Jaber Border Crossing, which links Jordan with Syria, handled 25,867 declarations, with the remainder being processed at other centers. In a statement to "Petra," Deifallah Abu Aqouleh, head of the Association of Owners of Clearance and Transport Companies (AOCTC), highlighted the increased activity at customs centers, driven by the movemen t of goods within local markets and through transit and re-export. He noted that the beginning of the year saw a significant rise in operations, particularly at the Jaber Border Crossing, where 100 clearance companies have fully reopened, and employees have resumed work. Abu Aqouleh emphasized that these companies are working tirelessly to expedite customs declarations and facilitate the swift movement of goods. He also pointed out that the resumption of trade with Syria has revitalized the trucking sector, aided by Jordan's facilitation measures and reduced duties on goods. Furthermore, Abu Aqouleh confirmed the export of Jordanian goods to Syria, primarily construction materials. He reported that 152,528 trucks crossed the Jaber Border Crossing in the first half of this year, a significant rise from 32,134 during the same period last year. Additionally, 221,518 trucks passed through the Omari Border Crossing, up from 197,003 in the previous year. Clearance companies processed 39,648 customs declarations for vehicles transiting Jordan in the first half of this year, compared to 23,880 in the same period last year, underscoring the growing momentum in the sector.
