Amman: Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat signed two agreements to support and operate factories for semi-fried potato production, as part of a broader effort to bolster Jordan's agricultural sector.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreements were signed during a ceremony at the ministry's headquarters, aligning with the Kingdom's Economic Modernization Vision and the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture. This initiative aims to enhance the resilience of Jordan's agricultural sector amid shifting regional and economic challenges, fostering partnerships between public and private sectors.
Hneifat explained that the agreements would support a factory in Ma'adi, Jordan Valley, and another in Al-Hassan Industrial Estate, Irbid governorate. The objective is to ensure the sustainability of these factories, absorb excess local potato production, and reinforce food value chains across industrial and municipal zones, thereby improving local food security and employment levels.
The initiative is also expected to increase job opportunities within local communities, with at least 60 direct and approximately 30 indirect jobs anticipated in areas such as transportation, packaging, and distribution. This effort will invigorate the local economy and provide farmers with consistent markets for their produce.
The ministry is committed to advancing the Kingdom's agricultural food industries and enhancing their competitiveness, promoting sustainable development, and encouraging investment in this sector. Investors Raed Sa'afin and Iman Bani Saeed acknowledged the ministry's support, emphasizing its potential to increase production capacity and promote economic growth.
