Aqaba: Under the patronage of HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, the city of Aqaba is set to host the Asian Under-23 Triathlon Championship at Ayla Oasis-Aqaba on Friday, October 31, and Saturday, November 1.
According to Jordan News Agency, the event will be graced by the presence of Antonio Fernandez Arimany, President of the World Triathlon, and is part of the annual calendar of activities organized by Ayla in collaboration with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority. This championship is poised to add a significant sporting and tourism dimension to Aqaba.
The competition will see participation from over 120 athletes representing various Asian countries. Elite professional races are scheduled for Friday, October 31, while an open race for all age groups will occur on Saturday, November 1, allowing amateurs and triathlon enthusiasts from all age brackets and nationalities to take part.
The announcement of the championship followed the signing of a cooperation agreement between Ayla Oasis Development Company and the Jordan Triathlon. This agreement was attended by Ayla CEO Sahal Dudin and Jordan Triathlon President Tareq Al-Khayyat.
Dudin remarked that the opportunity to host the championship for the ninth time underscores Ayla’s organizational prowess and bolsters Aqaba’s reputation as a prominent sports and tourism destination both regionally and internationally.
Al-Khayyat emphasized the championship’s role in providing young athletes with the chance to compete against Asia’s elite, preparing them for the Youth Olympics Games in Dakar 2026, enhancing their technical skills, and showcasing Jordan on the international stage.
This championship adds to a series of successful events hosted by Ayla in 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2024, establishing it as a favored destination for the Asian Triathlon Union due to its unique infrastructure and exceptional organizational capabilities.
The event will commence with swimming in Ayla’s artificial lake, followed by cycling and running on world-class courses, reinforcing Jordan’s status as a premier sports hub and affirming Aqaba and Ayla Resort’s readiness to host significant regional and global sporting events.
