ASEZA Implements New Measures to Combat Illegal Worker Movement

Aqaba: The Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) has approved regulatory and administrative measures to curb the illegal movement of foreign workers within the zone, focusing on factory laborers and domestic helpers.

According to Jordan News Agency, the measures include financial guarantees linked to labor violations to deter workers from leaving their designated employers. Sponsors of domestic helpers are now required to register both their and their worker's residences with ASEZA within 15 days. Shadi Majali, ASEZA Chief Commissioner, highlighted the need for a fair and safe work environment that protects the rights of both workers and employers, while also enforcing actions against unauthorized labor movement.

In addition to these measures, ASEZA has launched training programs aimed at women and children to foster creative thinking and skill development across various domains such as arts, culture, and life skills. These programs are scheduled to run for 5 to 7 months and are part of ASEZA's initiative to promote innovation and community development.

Furthermore, ASEZA has inaugurated the Aqaba Summer Club for children and adolescents at the ASEZA Children and Youth Library. The club will feature a variety of activities and training sessions conducted by qualified instructors, aligning with ASEZA's mission to empower young people with practical and cultural skills.

In an effort to support local healthcare initiatives, ASEZA has approved the provision of oxygen devices to a charity aiding cancer patients, facilitating home care and reducing the necessity for hospital visits.
