Australia: Australia on Sunday called on 'all relevant parties' to support dialogue and diplomacy following US strikes against Venezuela. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed the nation's stance on US social media company X, emphasizing the need for diplomatic engagement after the military operation by the US led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
According to Anadolu Agency, Albanese stated, "We urge all parties to support dialogue and diplomacy in order to secure regional stability and prevent escalation." He further added that Australia supports international law and a peaceful, democratic transition in Venezuela, reflecting the Venezuelan people's will.
Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declared Japan's commitment to collaborating with relevant countries to foster diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring democracy and stabilizing the situation in Venezuela. In a post on US social media company X, Takaichi assured that the safety of Japanese nationals is a priority, and the government is working closely with other nations to address the crisis.
South Korea's Foreign Ministry also released a statement highlighting its vigilance regarding the developments in Venezuela. "Our government urges all relevant parties to make an effort to alleviate tension in the region," the ministry stated, according to Yonhap News. They expressed hope for a swift stabilization of the situation through dialogue while respecting Venezuelan democratic principles.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, through spokesperson Angelica Escalona, echoed similar sentiments, urging 'concerned parties' to pursue peaceful resolutions and exercise restraint. "The Philippines is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Venezuela," Escalona stated, emphasizing the need for peaceful dispute resolution, as reported by the Philippine News Agency.
In addition, the Thai Foreign Ministry issued a statement from Bangkok, emphasizing the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and asserting its close monitoring of the Venezuelan situation.
The US strikes on Venezuela were in response to accusations against President Maduro of drug trafficking, claims that Maduro has denied, expressing his readiness for dialogue. Following the strikes, US President Donald Trump confirmed the "large-scale" operation, noting Maduro and his wife's capture and relocation out of the country. These developments follow months of increased US pressure on the Venezuelan leader.
