Rapid Response Division: Two people wanted for drugs were arrested in Maysan

Baghdad, Rapid Response Division forces arrested two wanted persons on drug charges, in their possession of unlicensed weapons in Maysan.

A statement by the Division stated: ‘A force from the Fourth Brigade, affiliated with the Rapid Response Division Command in the Ministry of the Interior, arrested two people wanted in accordance with the provisions of Article 28 of Drugs, and seized in their possession narcotic substances, unlicensed weapons, and hand grenades, in the Police and Al-Majjar Al-Kabeer neighborhood in Maysan Governorate.’

It explained: ‘The operation was carried out in cooperation with the Directorate for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances in the governorate, and in coordination with the Rapid Response Intelligence Department, and the wanted persons and the seized items were delivered to the requesting party.’

SCE: Safi, Shari, Andag fishing ban from May 1st

Manama, The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has announced a fishing ban on spangled Emperor (Shari), rabbitfish (Safi) and seabream (Andag), from May 1-31, according to Edict (2) of 2024, issued by His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and President of the SCE.

The SCE announced that the decision is part of Bahrain’s efforts to protect marine resources and to promote environmental balance and ecosystem rehabilitation.

Article 1 of the decision prohibits fishing in Bahrain’s territorial waters for Shaari, Safi, and Andag fish during April and May each year. For the year 2024, the ban is applicable only in May. Fishermen must release these fish caught during the ban back into the sea, ensuring their safety.

The SCE emphasised the importance of strengthening community cooperation to enforce the decision, essential for preserving fish stocks, highlighting that regulating fishing is a national responsibility, with positive effects on society.

he council affirmed that marine resources teams, in coordination with relevant authorities, are committed to increasing surveillance to prevent any violations of this decision. This ensures the development, growth, and preservation of fish and marine resources for current and future generations.

GASOLINE, DIESEL PRICES EDGE LOWER IN LEBANON


The price of 95 and 98 octane gasoline on Tuesday decreased by LBP 1000, diesel LBP 15,000, and gas cylinder by LBP 12,000, with the following updated prices:

– 95 Octane Gasoline: LBP 1,777,000

– 98 Octane Gasoline: LBP 1,815,000

– Diesel: LBP 1,521,000

– Gas Cylinder: LBP 904,000.

Updated – A Turkish tourist was killed on charges of carrying out a stabbing attack in Jerusalem

Jerusalem – Ma’an The occupation forces closed Bab al-Sahira in the city of Jerusalem, immediately after a “stabbing” operation carried out by a Turkish tourist, while the forces stormed the “Capitol” Hotel on Salah al-Din Street in Jerusalem, where the perpetrator was staying.

Ma’an’s correspondent in Jerusalem explained that the forces closed Bab al-Sahira, the adjacent streets, and the entire area (the main street), and during that, they prevented the passage of pedestrians, vehicles, and buses from the area, and this coincided with the end of school hours in the city.

The forces attacked young men and students to keep them away from the vicinity of the Bab al-Sahira area, while they arrested two young men from inside Bab al-Sahira and beat them while transporting them to the ‘Salah al-Din Street’ police station.

After more than two hours, the forces opened the area and detained the martyr’s body and transported him in a private ambulance.

During that time, a large force of intelligence forces stormed
the Capitol Hotel in the middle of Salah al-Din Street, investigated the ‘Turkish tourist,’ searched his room, and confiscated his belongings.

In the Bab al-Sahira area, a settler obstructed the work of the Al Jazeera crew, by pursuing him and trying to prevent him from filming with a large presence of forces in the place.

Tamweelcom Secures Green Financing for Climate-Resilience Projects

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, alongside the European Union and the Green Climate Fund, has announced a financing initiative for Jordan’s microfinance institution, Tamweelcom, under the Green Economy Financing Program. This initiative, totaling $4 million, targets micro, small, and medium enterprises in the technology sector to address climate change impacts.

The funding aims to raise awareness among borrowers about the importance of investing in green economy projects to combat and adapt to climate change effects. Moreover, it offers a “cash back” incentive for successful project implementation. Tamweelcom staff will undergo training on gender-sensitive green financing to address gender-specific barriers in both supply and demand.

Mike Taylor, Director of Financial Institutions in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, emphasized the significance of this agreement in promoting green investments, particularly in small pr
ojects, fostering sustainability, and gender inclusivity.

Thibaut Moyer, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Jordan, commended financial institutions like Tamweelcom for their contribution to climate action, highlighting the Union’s commitment to supporting the private sector, economic development, and job creation.

Bassem Khanfar, CEO of Tamweelcom, affirmed the institution’s dedication to sustainable development goals by offering green financing solutions. This agreement enables micro and small enterprises to invest in energy-efficient equipment, renewable energy, and waste reduction methods, fostering environmental benefits and mitigating climate change impacts.

Tamweelcom, a prominent microfinance institution in Jordan, serves approximately 100,000 clients through 39 branches. Established in 1999, Tamweelcom operates as a non-profit organization, aiming to empower entrepreneurs and improve living standards within international standards.

Since 2012, the European Bank for Rec
onstruction and Development has allocated over two billion euros to finance 71 projects in Jordan.

The MoD and NATO mission confirm the continuation of work to raise the efficiency of all categories of the Iraqi armed forces.

Baghdad, The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the NATO mission in Iraq will continue to work to raise the efficiency of all categories of the Iraqi armed forces.

A statement by the Ministry of Defense stated that the Military Inspector General, Lieutenant General Jassim Muhammad Alwan, received the representative of the NATO mission in Iraq.

During the meeting, according to the statement, they discussed joint cooperation between the NATO mission and the Ministry of Defense, activating special workshops to combat administrative and financial corruption, modernizing the principles of inspection and implementing them, and developing their work in a way that is commensurate with the development taking place in the armies of the world on scientific, professional and realistic foundations.

The two parties stressed, according to the statement, to continue working to raise the efficiency of all kinds of the Iraqi armed forces and to continue holding periodic meetings between the two parties.

Al-Lami congratulates the Iraqi workers on their International Day

Baghdad, Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and Head of the Union of Arab Journalists, Moayad Al-Lami, congratulated Iraqi workers on International Labor Day.

Al-Lami said in a blog post on the X website: ‘As we celebrate International Labor Day, we remember those majestic figures of our fathers who spent their lives working with great hardness and fatigue, in order to bring us to where we have reached now. Mercy and supplications to them as they departed from us to a merciful God.’

He added: ‘As for our workers who are working hard now in order to provide a decent living for their families, we say to them, Congratulations on Eid, may God bless you, and every year and you are a thousand good.’

LMRA conducted 985 inspection campaigns and visits during last week

Manama, The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) announced the implementation of 985 inspection campaigns and visits, during the week of 21 to 27 April 2024, which resulted in the detention of 125 violating and irregular workers, while 123 violators were deported.

The inspection campaigns and visits also resulted in monitoring a number of violations related to the provisions of a number of regulating laws, especially the Labour Market Regulatory Authority and the Residency Laws in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that legal measures were taken regarding the observed violations.

The authority pointed out that 972 inspection visits were carried out on various shops in all governorates, in addition to 13 joint inspection campaigns, that included 4 campaigns in the Capital Governorate; 3 campaigns in the Muharraq Governorate, and 3 campaigns in the Northern Governorate; and 3 campaigns Southern Governorate.

The government entities that participated in the campaigns are the Ministry of Interior, represented
by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), the Governorate’s respective Police Directorate, the Ministry of Oil and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Supreme Council for Environment, the Northern Area Municipal Council, and the Northern Area Municipality.

The Authority affirmed the continuation of joint coordination with government agencies to intensify inspection campaigns in all governorates of the kingdom and to address any violations or practices that negatively affect the stability and competitiveness of the labour market or harm the economic and social security of Bahrain.

The Labour Market Regulatory Authority renewed its call on all members of the society to support the efforts of government agencies in addressing illegal labour practices, by reporting violations via the electronic form on the authority’s website www.lmra.gov.bh or by calling the authority’s call centre on 17506055 or via the government’s Suggestions and Complaints System (Tawasul).

The occupation orders the cessation of work on reclaiming land in Deir Ballut

Salfit – Ma’an – Today, Tuesday, the Israeli occupation forces notified a citizen of stopping work on reclaiming his land, in the town of Deirblout, west of Salfit.

The mayor of Deirblout, Samir Youssef, said that the occupation forces handed the citizen Muhammad Dawoud Abdullah a notice to stop work on reclaiming his land located in the Al-Nashr area west of the town, under the pretext that it is located in an area classified as C, adding that the citizen leveled his land in preparation for cultivation.

He pointed out that the town’s residents are facing extremely difficult conditions, due to the occupation and settlers’ continuous attacks on them and their property by preventing them from working on their lands.
