Central Bank Governor Reaffirms ‘Commitment’ to Jordan’s Monetary Stability

Amman: Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) Governor Adel Sharkas stated that the CBJ remains "firmly committed" to preserving the Kingdom's monetary stability as one of the core pillars of the national economy. Sharkas emphasized that the monetary policies in place have yielded "positive" results, boosting confidence in the Jordanian economy both domestically and internationally.

According to Jordan News Agency, Sharkas mentioned in remarks to "Petra" on Tuesday that the CBJ is utilizing all available tools to ensure price stability. The Governor highlighted that the CBJ's efforts have resulted in "notable" outcomes, such as the increase in foreign-currency reserves to approximately USD24.1 billion. This level of reserves reflects the strength of the monetary policy and Jordan's capability to meet external obligations and comfortably cover import needs.

Sharkas pointed out that the economic environment has improved, with inflation declining to about 1.8 percent. This reduction strengthens household purchasing power and alleviates price pressures on essential goods. Looking ahead, he emphasized that maintaining price stability will continue to be a "strategic priority" for the CBJ.

The Governor also remarked that the Jordanian banking sector continues to show "strong resilience" and the ability to withstand economic shocks. He noted that the sector is robust, supervised under high international standards, and plays a central role in supporting economic growth and financing productive sectors.

Furthermore, Sharkas highlighted that current levels of capital adequacy and liquidity demonstrate the sector's stability and its capacity to effectively serve the national economy. The CBJ, he noted, remains proactive in aligning its policies with global developments through a risk-based approach, underscoring the importance of coordination between monetary, fiscal, and economic policies to ensure the continuity of recovery and growth.
