Seoul: The death toll from wildfires sweeping through South Korea since last week rose to 30 on Saturday and 70 people were injured, Yonhap News Agency reported.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters said the fires, raging in 11 locations in the southeast of the country, ravaged more than 48,000 hectares of land and destroyed about 4,800 facilities, homes, and heritage sites.
Some 6,885 people have been evacuated and have not been able to return to their homes. It was noted that North Gyeongsang Province, particularly Uiseong, was the hardest hit by the fires, where at least 26 people were killed and 45,000 hectares of land burned.
Firefighters were battling to control the blazes, with 97 percent of the fires in Sancheong county and Haedong contained as of noon local time today, the center said.
