Entrepreneurship, Innovation: Jordan’s Bridge to Prosperous Future

Amman: Entrepreneurship and innovation serve as Jordan's gateway to a prosperous future by fostering skills, providing resources, and supporting sustainable growth. The Economic Modernization Vision (EMV) aims to drive long-term economic growth and enhance quality of life for future generations.

According to Jordan News Agency, information technology (IT) experts emphasize the importance of strengthening Jordan's startup ecosystem by focusing on three key pillars identified in the EMV: entrepreneurship and innovation, future services, and investment in startups.

Ziad Al-Masri, Program Director at the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (Int@j), highlighted that entrepreneurship and innovation are core drivers of the EMV. He noted that education at all levels plays a fundamental role in fostering innovation and developing critical skills.

Al-Masri stated that Int@j is actively working on connecting entrepreneurs with investors, enhancing innovation through specialized initiatives, and creating a business-friendly environment for startups. Future services, particularly AI and deep technology, are crucial for Jordan's digital economy. Int@j has launched several initiatives, including specialized workshops and networking events to connect Jordanian entrepreneurs with global experts in AI and cybersecurity.

Mohammad Obaidat, Director of the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE), highlighted several initiatives that have significantly enhanced Jordan's startup ecosystem. These include business acceleration programs to support startup growth, innovation projects in key sectors such as agriculture, water, and renewable energy, government-backed programs through the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, and women and youth empowerment programs providing training, mentorship, and financial support. Obaidat stressed that these initiatives contribute to sustainable economic growth, job creation, and Jordan's positioning as a regional innovation hub.

Omar Al-Zoubi, Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence at Al-Balqa Applied University, underlined the importance of technology and digital transformation in Jordan's modernization strategy. He highlighted initiatives such as Digital Jordan, a major project enhancing technological infrastructure and innovation, and the King Hussein Business Park, a tech hub for startups developing cutting-edge solutions. Al-Zoubi also pointed to government reforms aimed at simplifying investment procedures, such as electronic portals and legislative updates, which have improved the business climate for both local and foreign investors.

The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Pillar of the EMV encompasses seven sectors and 85 initiatives aimed at developing future-ready talent, preparing resources, institutions, and infrastructure for economic growth, and enhancing quality of life through innovation-driven development. Key focus areas include education, research and development, SME growth, and data sector development. These initiatives reinforce Jordan's ambition to become a regional leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.
