Faraya Reviews Jordan’s Migration Governance at MCP Med TI Meeting

Amman: Minister of Interior, Mazen Faraya, chaired the 6th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Training Institute on Migration Capacity Partnership for the Mediterranean (MCP Med TI), where he reviewed Jordan's migration governance policies and efforts.

According to Jordan News Agency, Faraya addressed the challenges posed by Jordan's geopolitical location, particularly in economic areas, due to the acceleration of international migration. He emphasized the need for clear policies and strategies to manage the resulting impacts on countries around the world. Jordan, he stated, has adopted a comprehensive approach to migration management, focusing on organization, planning, and institutionalization.

The minister highlighted Jordan's work in facilitating the orderly, safe, and regular movement of people through strong legislation and effective management. This process is supported by national institutions that use migration governance to enhance Jordan's security, stability, and economic development, especially amid changing regional circumstances.

On capacity building, Faraya noted that since joining MCP Med TI, Jordan has worked on developing the technical skills of migration sector workers. The Ministry of Interior has adopted a scientific methodology for selecting specialized training courses, and its training center was accredited as a hub for the institute in Malta. Since 2021, 229 participants from various countries and 153 Jordanians have participated in the institute's activities in Jordan.

Additionally, seven Jordanian trainers were certified by the European Union to empower national competencies and transfer knowledge to local institutions. Faraya affirmed Jordan's progress in migration governance and its role as a regional center, providing expertise to Arab countries like Lebanon, Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya. He also expressed Jordan's willingness to support Syria during its reconstruction phase.

In conclusion, Faraya stressed the importance of regular dialogue and assessment of cooperation efforts in the migration field, highlighting the need for adequate funding mechanisms for capacity development.
