Amman: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriate Affairs Badr Abdel-Aty engaged in a telephone conversation on Saturday to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional developments, as part of ongoing consultations between the two nations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministers emphasized the longstanding and robust ties between Jordan and Egypt, expressing a mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas such as investment and building on current coordination efforts. This commitment aims to benefit the interests of both countries and their citizens.
The discussion highlighted the importance of fully implementing a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip in line with US President Donald Trump's plan. The ministers underscored the necessity of ensuring sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to the region and progressing to the next phase of the agreement. They advocated for forming a Palestinian committee of technocrats to manage the Gaza Strip, deploying an international stabilization force, and creating conditions conducive to early recovery and reconstruction.
The ministers also emphasized the need to preserve the unity of Palestinian land between the West Bank and Gaza Strip and to link stabilization efforts to a clear political horizon aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace grounded in the two-state solution. They cautioned against illegal Israeli actions in the occupied West Bank, which could incite violence and undermine peace efforts.
In addition to the Palestinian issue, the ministers discussed the situations in Syria and Lebanon. They reiterated the necessity of ensuring security and stability in Syria, respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and safeguarding its citizens. They called for an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon and emphasized support for the country's stability, sovereignty, and institutional strength.
Safadi and Abdel-Aty also voiced strong opposition to Israel's recognition of Somaliland and reaffirmed their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Furthermore, they expressed support for efforts to de-escalate tensions in Yemen and encouraged dialogue among Yemeni parties to secure the country's stability and fulfill the aspirations of its people.
