Amman: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi Wednesday welcomed a delegation of the US Churches for Middle East Peace to discuss developments in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the meeting with the delegation of Churches for Middle East Peace, a US non-profit advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C., Safadi stressed the need to halt the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and open crossings for the entry of aid to the Strip, which is suffering from an "unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe."
He also called for halting the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, Israeli violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and respecting the legal and historical status quo there.
Safadi reviewed Jordan's efforts to bring about peace and enhance regional and international security, stressing that an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1976, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only path to achieve just and comprehensive peace, security and stability in the region.
Separately, Safadi received a delegation of peace process experts of European Union missions to the United Nations in New York. The meeting tackled prospects to bolster Jordanian-European partnerships, and efforts towards an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the Strip.
The meeting also touched on developments in Syria and Lebanon, as well as cooperation between Jordan and European countries in efforts to achieve regional security and stability.
