Cairo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi participated in a ministerial meeting in Cairo. The meeting was attended by key figures, including Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati, United Arab Emirates Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee Secretary-General Hussein Al Sheikh, and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting was convened at the invitation of the Arab Republic of Egypt and focused on several pressing issues in the Middle East. The attendees welcomed the recent ceasefire deal in Gaza and the exchange of hostages and detainees. They commended the efforts of Egypt and Qatar in facilitating this agreement and acknowledged the role of the United States in achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region, aligned with the two-state solution.
The participants affirmed their support for the ongoing efforts to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire deal, emphasizing the importance of maintaining calm and enabling humanitarian aid to reach all parts of the Gaza Strip. They highlighted the necessity of removing obstacles to aid entry and ensuring the withdrawal of Israeli forces, rejecting any attempts to divide the Gaza Strip. The meeting underlined the importance of enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities in Gaza as part of the occupied Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The meeting stressed the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and rejected any attempts to undermine its functions. It called for international efforts to initiate a comprehensive reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip, ensuring that Palestinians can remain on their land and improve their daily lives amid ongoing challenges.
The attendees expressed full support for the Palestinian people's steadfastness and legitimate rights in accordance with international law. They rejected any violations of these rights, including settlement activities and displacement, which threaten regional stability and peace prospects.
The meeting also welcomed Egypt's intention to host an international conference on Gaza's reconstruction in collaboration with the United Nations and urged the international community to contribute to this initiative. It appealed to international and regional powers to implement the two-state solution, addressing the root causes of Middle East tensions and achieving a just settlement of the Palestinian issue.
On the sidelines, Ayman Safadi held consultations with the Egyptian foreign minister, the PLO Executive Committee Secretary-General, and other attending ministers to further discuss these critical issues.
