FM, Spanish Counterpart Discuss Ties, Region

Amman: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, and Jose Manuel Albares, the Spanish minister of foreign affairs, European Union, and cooperation, met on Sunday to discuss enhancing the historical ties between the two kingdoms and expanding cooperation across a range of areas.

According to Jordan News Agency, the two ministers confirmed the continuing of efforts to complete the strategic partnership agreement in order to enhance it as quickly as possible and talked about ways to activate collaboration in the defense, economic, trade, and tourism sectors. Safadi and Albares reaffirmed their support for each other's candidacies in international organizations as well as their continued collaboration in international fora.

The two ministers went over the Union's preparations for the Mediterranean meeting, which is scheduled for the end of this year in Spain, where it has its permanent headquarters in Barcelona. Jordan and the European Union will co-chair the summit in honor of its 30th anniversary.

In addition to discussing regional and international efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and end the humanitarian catastrophe and suffering caused by the aggression on the Palestinian people, Safadi and Albares met before the ministerial meeting of the expanded Madrid Group (Madrid+) to implement the two-state solution.

Safadi emphasized at the discussion that stopping the aggression and sending relief to Gaza right away must be a top priority for the international community. The international community's failure to halt the war in Gaza has damaged the credibility of international law; the Palestinian people and their rights to life, food, water, and medicine are being protected; and the prospects of a fair and comprehensive peace are being safeguarded.

In addition to praising Spain's efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire and move closer to a just and comprehensive peace, Safadi also praised Spain's stances in favor of the Palestinian people's right to freedom and an independent, sovereign state founded on the two-state solution.

Safadi also praised Spain for stopping arms sales to Israel and recognizing the State of Palestine. In order to rally support for an end to the aggression, the recognition of the State of Palestine, and its full membership in the UN, he underlined the significance of the meeting that Madrid hosted today and in which over 20 nations participated, including a delegation from the ministerial committee that was established by the European Union and the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit on Gaza.

Congratulating Safadi on the 79th anniversary of the Kingdom's Independence Day, the Spanish Foreign Minister highlighted Spain's desire to deepen its longstanding partnership with Jordan and its gratitude for the efforts done by His Majesty King Abdullah II to accomplish just peace, security, and stability in the region.
