Amman: Heavy dust and rain have been reported in parts of Jordan, causing significant disruptions on the roads as traffic patrols work diligently to ensure driver safety. The Highway Patrol Department announced on Monday that the Ruwaished-Turaibil road is experiencing heavy dust and low visibility, while Ma'an Governorate and southern Azraq are facing heavy rainfall due to cumulonimbus clouds forming amid high temperatures.
According to Jordan News Agency, in response to these challenging weather conditions, the Highway Patrol and the Traffic Department have launched a field initiative. On Monday, they began distributing face masks and cold drinking water to public transport drivers, passengers, and users of external roads. This initiative covers multiple locations, including Al-Omari, Tal Hassan, Azraq, and Al-Harana stations, where safety tips are also provided to promote safe driving.
The departments have reiterated their commitment to public safety by being ready to assist road users around the clock. Drivers are urged to adhere to traffic safety guidelines in dusty weather, such as checking road conditions before traveling, closing windows and air intake vents, turning on fog lights, maintaining a safe distance, reducing speed, and stopping safely if visibility becomes too poor.
Additional advice includes avoiding direct exposure to midday sun, staying hydrated, wearing masks, especially if one has respiratory conditions, being cautious of sudden flash floods in southern and eastern areas, and not leaving children unattended in vehicles. Furthermore, drivers are cautioned against swimming in agricultural ponds, leaving flammable materials or sanitizers inside vehicles, and are advised to conserve electricity and protect livestock and crops from the heatwave's impact.
