House Approves Key Articles in Jordanian National Commission for Women’s 2024 Bill

Amman: The Lower House of Representatives approved 4 out of the total 13 articles of the draft law of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) for 2024. The endorsement came during a legislative session held Wednesday, chaired by House Speaker Ahmad Safadi, and attended by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan and the government team.

According to Jordan News Agency, Minister of State for Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdel Moneim Odat highlighted the necessity of establishing a legal framework for the JNCW's operations to regulate its work mechanism. Odat emphasized that this framework has existed since 1992 and was granted legal status by an administrative decision issued by the Council of Ministers.

The minister further noted the measures taken to "legalize" the Cabinet decision from 1992, which designated the commission as the body responsible for managing women's affairs and developing relevant strategies. Odat explained that a key reason for "legalizing" the JNCW was the formation of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System.

He also mentioned that the commission's primary focus is empowering women and youth, which is reflected in the amendments made to the Constitution and the Elections and Political Parties Laws. He stated that the JNCW is a "representative" committee tasked with developing strategies for women's affairs across various aspects of life.
