Amman: The Interior Ministry announced that there are no modifications to the land ownership criteria for non-Jordanians, refuting rumors about expanding property ownership rights for foreigners. According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry clarified that the instructions regarding the approval of real estate ownership applications by non-Jordanians, as published in the official gazette, align with the amendments to the Real Estate Ownership Law enacted on September 17, 2023. These amendments were implemented following parliamentary approval and completion of all constitutional procedures. Tariq Majali, the ministry's media spokesman, emphasized in a press statement that these changes require prior approval from the interior minister for non-Jordanians wishing to own real estate in the Kingdom. Majali further stated that the law prohibits non-Jordanians from owning property in border areas and at archaeological and historical sites. Additionally, the amendments empower the Council of Ministers to restrict non-Jordanian property ownership in any other areas deemed necessary. The instructions, Majali explained, serve as a "procedural mechanism" to ensure the enforcement of the law. They facilitate the approval process and communication between the Department of Lands and Survey and the Interior Ministry. Importantly, these instructions do not introduce any new measures, expansions, or changes to the existing regulations overseeing property ownership by non-Jordanians.
