Amman: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has initiated a media-focused awareness campaign in Amman aimed at combating terrorism and countering incitement through a blend of traditional and digital media channels.
According to Jordan News Agency, the launch event was graced by the presence of notable figures including Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani, IMCTC Secretary-General Major General Pilot Mohammad Maghidi, and Assistant Representative of the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces for Administration and Human Resources, Brigadier General Khalil Dajjah. The initiative includes a three-day workshop titled "The Role of Traditional and Modern Media in Spreading Community Awareness to Prevent Terrorism," which brings together Jordanian journalists, media professionals, subject matter experts, and members of the Military Media Directorate to discuss media's role in preventing extremism.
Momani emphasized the strong strategic partnership between Jordan and Saudi Arabia in counterterrorism, labeling it as a model for regional cooperation. He underscored the need for education, critical thinking, and media literacy, particularly among youths, who are frequently targeted by extremist propaganda. Highlighting the dangers posed by disinformation and psychological manipulation, Momani called for robust media partnerships to promote objective discourse. He praised Saudi Arabia's leadership in steering the coalition of 43 member states and reaffirmed Jordan's commitment as a founding member since 2017, emphasizing the necessity of sustained regional and international collaboration in combating terrorism.
Major General Maghidi stated that the initiative's launch underscores the coalition's belief in media's power to influence public perception and counter extremist ideology. The workshop aims to equip media professionals with essential tools to combat incitement, raise public awareness, and effectively counter propaganda. It will cover several themes, including the role of traditional media in preventive awareness, the use of digital platforms to reach youth, techniques for debunking misinformation, and the importance of media ethics.
Participants will identify technical, social, and political challenges faced by media institutions and propose innovative solutions to strengthen media's role in counterterrorism. The Amman workshop provides a platform for knowledge exchange and capacity-building, aligning with the coalition's vision to enhance cooperation among member states and promote regional stability through strategic media engagement.
