Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Leave Two Dead Amid Ceasefire

Beirut: Two people were killed and a third was injured in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, marking a breach of the ceasefire agreement, as confirmed by the Health Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, the fatalities took place when an Israeli drone executed a strike in the town of Kafrdounin, situated in the Bint Jbeil District. The state news agency NNA detailed that an Israeli aircraft launched two missiles into a three-story building in Ghaziyeh, a town located in Sidon, resulting in one injury as reported by the Health Ministry.

The strikes occurred against the backdrop of Israeli media reports suggesting preparations for a potential large-scale assault on Hezbollah positions. This is contingent upon the Lebanese government and army's failure to dismantle the group's weaponry.

Since November 2024, Lebanon and Israel have been adhering to a ceasefire that concluded over a year of cross-border hostilities linked to the Gaza conflict, which resulted in over 4,000 deaths and 17,000 injuries. Despite the ceasefire mandates, requiring the Israeli army to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January, the withdrawal has been partial, with a continued military presence at five border outposts.
