Amman: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, led by Minister Saleh Kharabsheh, concluded a series of joint meetings with Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Mohammad Al-Bashir and his delegation. The discussions, initiated earlier in the day in Amman, aimed at fostering bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meetings resulted in an agreement to form specialized technical teams for coordinating reciprocal visits. These visits are intended to evaluate the situation in Syria's electricity, oil, natural gas, and renewable energy sectors, setting the stage for addressing sectoral needs.
The ministry organized several focused sessions with the Syrian delegation, which included Jordanian officials and private sector representatives. The discussions concentrated on enhancing collaboration in electricity distribution, renewable energy, and the oil and gas sectors.
One notable session included representatives from electricity distribution companies and the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), where a presentation on Jordan's regulatory and privatization framework for electricity distribution was shared. The parties also discussed potential technical support and investment opportunities in Syria's power distribution sector.
The Syrian delegation also engaged with Jordanian private companies involved in renewable energy projects to explore cooperation and investment opportunities. Discussions examined Syria's legislative and regulatory environment for renewable energy investment, with Jordanian firms indicating their interest in future projects.
Jordan's industrial representatives contributed by sharing their experience in manufacturing inputs for renewable energy projects and expressed readiness to participate in the Syrian market.
In a dedicated session focused on oil and petroleum products, Syrian officials met with representatives of the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, petroleum marketing companies, and the Jordan Oil Terminals Company (JOTC). The discussions addressed Syria's challenges in securing petroleum products and rehabilitating its oil refining infrastructure.
Jordanian companies proposed cooperation avenues to support Syria's downstream sector, including supplying household gas, rehabilitating fuel stations, and enhancing storage capacities.
During a joint press briefing, Minister Kharabsheh highlighted the significance of advancing energy and water relations, emphasizing the mutual interest in expanding cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
