Jordan Condemns Israeli Calls for Annexation of Occupied West Bank

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Wednesday strongly condemned statements by members of the far-right Israeli government, the latest of which was a call by Justice Minister Yariv Levin to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry reiterated that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories. The Ministry's statement declared such remarks a violation of international law and Israel's obligations as an occupying power. Ministry spokesperson Sufian Al-Qudah emphasized that these statements are an assault on the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent, sovereign state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Qudah highlighted Jordan's rejection and condemnation of these statements, which he said reflect the Israeli government's extremist policies and illegal practices in the West Bank, including settlement construction and expansion. These actions violate international law, including UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice, which call for the end of the Israeli occupation and deem colonial settlement construction illegal.

He further warned about the consequences of Israeli policies, stressing that all measures in the occupied West Bank are illegal. Al-Qudah urged the international community to compel Israel to halt its aggression against Gaza and violations in the West Bank, protect Palestinians, and support their rights to an independent state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital.

He concluded by stating that achieving a just and comprehensive peace is the only way to ensure security and stability in the region.
