Jordan Increases Barley and Bran Prices for April, Maintains Subsidy for Sheep Breeders

Amman: The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply has announced an increase in the selling price of barley for April by JD16.5 per tonne for all livestock breeders, including those raising cattle, poultry, camels, and horses, as well as for companies importing live livestock. The updated price is now set at JD240 per tonne, up from JD223.5 in the previous two months, and includes sales tax. Notably, this price increase does not apply to sheep breeders.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry has decided to maintain the subsidized barley price for sheep breeders at JD175 per tonne, based on lists provided by the Ministry of Agriculture. This decision ensures continued support for sheep breeders amidst the price changes.

Decision No. 33 of 2025 also outlines that the Ministry will persist with a fixed fee of JD1,450 per truck exporting live local sheep, as stipulated in Article 6(b) of the Import and Export Law No. 21 of 2001. This measure is part of the broader regulatory framework guiding the livestock sector.

The subsidized price of bran for sheep breeders remains at JD77 per tonne. In contrast, the price of bran for other livestock breeders, including cattle, poultry, camels, and horses, has been increased by JD3 per tonne, bringing it to JD157 per tonne, inclusive of sales tax, according to the Ministry's guidelines.

The Ministry has directed all relevant parties to implement these changes starting from April 1, with the updated pricing structure to remain in effect for one month.
