Amman: The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply has announced an increase in the price of unified wheat flour produced by private sector mills and the Al-Jweideh Mill. The new price has been set at JD172.195 per tonne for April, marking a rise from JD167.345 per tonne in February and March.
According to Jordan News Agency, Decision No. 37 of 2025 by the Ministry also includes an increase in the selling price of wheat for all mills across the Kingdom. The new wheat price is now JD139.920 per tonne, up from JD136.137 in the previous two months. Mills are required to supply bakeries with their full flour needs based on approved allocations. Any excess wheat milled beyond the quota or any unapproved sales will incur a higher charge of JD252 per tonne, a slight decrease from previous months.
The Ministry has set the flour extraction rate at 78% and bran at 22%, with other flour types needing to meet national standards. This monthly pricing decision aligns with Cabinet resolutions that allow for the liberalization of flour and bread pricing, with a significant decision made in 2019 that reduced unified flour prices by JD10.
Despite these adjustments in flour pricing, the government has kept bread prices stable since 2018, with fixed prices for various bread types. The unified wheat flour price changes do not impact consumer bread costs directly but are part of a monthly review process that adjusts prices based on diesel fluctuations.
Jordan's bread production requires approximately 90,000 tonnes of wheat and 52,000 tonnes of unified flour each month. To ensure the strategic reserves meet domestic demand, the Ministry regularly issues tenders to maintain adequate supply levels.
