Jordan Kicks Off Environmental and Social Framework for Water Projects

Amman: The Ministry of Water and Irrigation/Water Authority on Monday launched a new Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) for its projects, in cooperation with international partners and the German Development Bank (KfW).

According to Jordan News Agency, the framework is designed to ensure the integration of the highest standards of environmental protection and social responsibility. It aims to guide all phases of future projects, aligning them with local and international laws from planning to implementation, completion, and post-project maintenance.

The ESF covers topics including the legal framework, environmental and social risk management, community engagement, and capacity building to ensure effective implementation. It is considered a key pillar for achieving good governance and comprehensive sustainability in the water sector.

The launch was attended by Director of the Planning and Management Department Sultan Mashaqbeh, Manuel Scheffler from KfW, and a number of water sector employees, partners, and stakeholders.
