Jordanian Commission Chairperson Advocates for Enhanced Protection Services for Abused Women.

Amman: Chairperson of the Jordanian National Commission for Women Princess Basma bint Talal emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated national approach to improve protection services for abused women and girls in Jordan during a meeting at the Nuzha Development Centre for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Princess Basma highlighted the necessity of developing national policies and mechanisms to combat violence against women, describing these efforts as essential for empowering women. According to Jordan News Agency, Princess Basma expressed pride in Jordan's advancements in women's empowerment, commending organizations such as the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD), the Jordanian National Commission for Women, the National Team for the Protection of the Family from Violence, the Jordanian Women's Union, and international entities like UN Women for their roles in combating violence against women and girls. MoSD Minister and Chair of the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women, Wafa Bani Mustafa, reiterated Jordan's commitment to human and women's rights, noting the significant reforms and progress made in combating violence and discrimination. Bani Mustafa highlighted the introduction of constitutional amendments ensuring women's empowerment and protection from discrimination, as well as laws addressing domestic violence, human trafficking, and gender-based violence. Bani Mustafa also discussed a newly enacted law aimed at enhancing women's economic participation and guaranteeing their access to equal opportunities. She detailed key aspects of the upcoming Social Development Law 2024, which will include provisions for protecting abused women and vulnerable groups. This law aims to reinforce the protection services available to women, ensuring the state's commitment to gender equality is mirrored in its legal framework. Furthermore, Bani Mustafa stated that her Ministry is collaborating with national and international stakeholders to review and update the National Strategy for Social Protection. This strategy seeks to provide comprehensive social services to at-risk populations, with the Ministry eager to leverage best practices and exchange expertise with local and international bodies. Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women, Maha Ali, announced the launch of a new awareness platform on the Commission's website. The "Learn More about Prevention and Protection from Violence" platform will offer information and resources on protection services and prevention strategies for women in Jordan.
