Amman: Jordan's national basketball team is intensifying its technical and physical preparations ahead of resuming its campaign in the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 World Cup. The national squad is scheduled to play three crucial fixtures in the coming days. Jordan will first face Iraq on Monday in a postponed match from the second window of the qualifiers. This will be followed by consecutive Group C matches in the third window against Iran and Iraq on July 2 and July 5, respectively, with both games hosted at the Arena Hall in the Al-Hussein Youth City.
According to Jordan News Agency, Jordan currently tops Group C with six points after maintaining a perfect record in their opening three matches, which included two victories over Syria and a win against Iran. Head coach Wisam Al-Sous said preparations are progressing according to schedule, with current training sessions focusing on boosting player fitness levels and reinforcing tactical cohesion ahead of the upcoming games. Al-Sous called on Jordanian fans to support the team at the Arena Hall, noting that home crowd backing serves as a vital incentive for the players to sustain their winning streak.
The Asian qualifiers feature 16 teams divided into four groups. The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round, with the exception of the group containing tournament hosts Qatar, who qualify automatically, meaning only two teams will advance from that specific group. In the second round, the advancing teams will be split into two groups of six, carrying forward their first-round results. The top three teams from each group, along with the best fourth-placed team, will secure berths at the 2027 World Cup alongside Qatar.
