Amman:The electrical and electronics sector in the Kingdom has witnessed rapid advancements over the past five years, achieving a level of development that surpasses most countries in the region. Hatem Al-Zoubi, a representative of the sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, highlighted these achievements.
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Zoubi noted that the sector has progressed significantly in offering the latest products, especially in renewable energy, smart lighting, and technology-driven devices. This progress has been supported by the growing experience of traders and importers.
The electrical appliance market in Jordan is highly competitive, with more than 3,000 traders in Amman and other governorates, providing around 25,000 jobs. These businesses are committed to importing the latest appliance models to meet diverse consumer needs. Despite moderate demand due to declining purchasing power and competition, prices have remained stable due to large inventories.
Al-Zoubi emphasized the sector's role as a key pillar of Jordan's commercial sector, contributing significantly to economic activity and maintaining strong links to other sectors like housing and construction. He also addressed the challenges faced by traders, including higher operating costs and regional tensions affecting transportation and shipping.
Efforts to ensure the diversity and availability of goods are ongoing, with a focus on facilitating inspection procedures and recognizing certificates from countries of origin to reduce costs. Al-Zoubi stressed the importance of training personnel in line with technological advancements to ensure quality and efficient import processes.
Quality standards are maintained through continuous inspection by the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, with cooperation from the Jordan Customs Department to expedite the flow of goods. The Chamber coordinates with relevant ministries to address challenges and improve the business environment.
Al-Zoubi called for continuous dialogue between the private sector and government authorities to develop legislation and technical standards that keep pace with technological changes while balancing consumer protection and commercial activity. The Chamber's role in addressing sector concerns and facilitating dialogue with government authorities is crucial for market stability and growth.
