Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II welcomed European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Amman for the first Jordan-European Union Summit. The summit, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, marked a significant milestone in the relationship between Jordan and the EU, aiming to strengthen ties grounded in shared values and a mutual commitment to regional stability and prosperity.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting was attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and highlighted the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership agreement signed last year. This agreement serves as a foundation for deepening political dialogue and expanding economic cooperation to address current challenges and capitalize on future opportunities. His Majesty emphasized the importance of translating the strategic framework into tangible outcomes benefiting both regions.
King Abdullah II expressed Jordan's appreciation for the EU's support in modernizing the Kingdom, focusing on cooperation in security, defense, education, and youth empowerment. He underscored the partnership's role in fostering sustainable growth, job creation, and innovation by enhancing economic resilience and expanding trade and investment cooperation. The King also announced the upcoming Jordan-EU Investment Conference in April, aimed at bolstering economic and investment ties.
During the summit, discussions on regional stability were pivotal, with His Majesty highlighting the Jordan-EU partnership as a significant factor in peace efforts. European Council President Antonio Costa confirmed the strategic partnership agreement's role as a cornerstone of EU-Jordan relations and commended Jordan's humanitarian efforts in Gaza. Costa reiterated the EU's commitment to supporting Jordan's economic stability and expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming investment conference.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen praised King Abdullah II as a crucial partner for Europe in the Middle East, recognizing his role in regional stability. She emphasized the evolution of EU-Jordan relations into a comprehensive strategic partnership, focusing on political, economic, and regional stability, as well as refugee support. Von der Leyen revealed the EU's plan to increase investments in Jordan to 1.4 billion euros, highlighting the significance of the forthcoming investment conference.
