Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II, at a meeting on Wednesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, stressed the need to reach a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the meeting, which was held at Al Husseiniya Palace and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty emphasized Jordan's unwavering support to the Palestinians in gaining their full legitimate rights, as stated in a royal court announcement.
The King highlighted the necessity to halt settlement activities and expressed disapproval of any attempts to annex land or displace Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. He urged support for the Palestinians' resolve to remain on their lands.
His Majesty noted Jordan's ongoing collaboration with Arab and friendly nations in addressing regional issues and achieving stability in the area. He reiterated the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the Strip.
The King called on the international community to play a more active role in de-escalating tensions in the West Bank and to put an end to the violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
President Abbas, during the meeting, praised Jordan's consistent stance, under the leadership of His Majesty, in supporting the Palestinian cause and the resilience of Palestinians in their homeland. He acknowledged Jordan's significant role in upholding a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and commended the Kingdom's continuous efforts in facilitating the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, which helps alleviate the suffering of Palestinians under challenging conditions.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni. On the Palestinian side, Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organisation's Executive Committee Hussein Sheikh, General Intelligence Service Director Majid Faraj, Senior Diplomatic Adviser to the President Majdi Khaldi, and Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan Atallah Khairi were present.
