Amman: The Ministry of Water and Irrigation, along with the Water Authority and the Jordan Valley Authority, launched the 6th phase of the leadership development program, themed: “Lead to Serve” on Tuesday. The initiative, implemented in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), targets capacity building for professionals in the Kingdom’s water sector.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the opening ceremony, the Ministry’s Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mohammad Ofishat stated that the program focuses on equipping participants with knowledge of leadership concepts, styles, and the institutional role in decision-making. Khaled Adgham, Assistant Secretary-General for Financial Affairs at the Water Authority, emphasized the program’s role in refining leadership skills, supporting talent selection, and building a capable team of trainers and future sector leaders.
Saad Ramadaneh, Adviser to the Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, commended GIZ’s ongoing support, noting the program’s importance in preparing leaders to navigate sector challenges. Trevor Surridge, Coordinator of GIZ’s Water and Energy Cluster, explained that the program began in 2019 and will continue through 2026. Several workshops have already been held, with many participants now serving in leadership roles across the sector.
Mai Aldergham, Deputy Team Leader of the GIZ Water Sector Governance Program, highlighted that “Lead to Serve” responds to the urgent need for leadership development in Jordan’s water sector. The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Representatives of water companies, including Jalal Nahleh, Dalal Aliwa, and Iyad Khasawneh, expressed their appreciation to GIZ for its role in fostering leadership capabilities, with a particular focus on empowering women in sector leadership and management.
