Cairo: The Lebanese army evacuated the Qasmiyeh coastal bridge in the southern city of Tyre after receiving threats from Israel to target the infrastructure, as stated by the military. The Qasmiyeh bridge, the last remaining major link between the southern cities of Sidon and Tyre, faces potential destruction. This action could further isolate southern Lebanon, considering Israeli airstrikes have previously devastated alternative secondary bridges in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, the evacuation is part of a series of ongoing Israeli strikes targeting logistical networks and vital infrastructure across Lebanon. Local authorities expressed concern that losing the bridge would significantly disrupt civilian movement and hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid to southern communities.
The Lebanese military confirmed that the evacuation was a precautionary measure to safeguard lives following a direct threat. The Qasmiyeh bridge, spanning the Litani River, is a crucial junction for coastal transport, highlighting its strategic importance in the region.
