Mark Carney Elected as Canada’s New Prime Minister

Amman: Canada's ruling Liberal Party has chosen Mark Carney to replace Justin Trudeau as the country's prime minister. The former central bank governor secured 85.9 percent of the votes cast by Liberal Party members, according to official figures.

According to Jordan News Agency, Carney will assume leadership as Canada navigates a trade war with the United States under President Donald Trump. Additionally, he must prepare for an impending general election. In his victory speech, Carney addressed the challenges posed by Trump, stating, "There's someone who's trying to weaken our economy. He's attacking Canadian workers, families, and businesses. We can't let him succeed."

Trudeau announced his resignation in January, stepping down from a position he held for about a decade. His decision was influenced by increasing pressure due to the party's declining popularity with the approach of the next general election. The transition between Trudeau and Carney is anticipated to occur within days as a new government is established.
