The Minister of Environment, Eng. Nizar Amidi, chaired the first meeting of the National Committee for Climate Change, in the presence of the undersecretaries of the relevant ministries and all members of the committee, to discuss Iraq's preparations for the Conference of the States Parties at its twenty-eighth session on climate change in Dubai, COP28 - Dubai.
During the opening of the meeting, the Minister of Environment stated that strengthening joint Arab and global action in achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and preparing the national negotiating delegation that will participate in the conference are among the most important axes that were discussed in conjunction with the implementation of the Prime Minister's directives on the need to strengthen climate action and take effective measures by all governmental and non-governmental sectors and civil society organizations.
He added: "COP28 - Dubai will focus on global and national efforts to mitigate the devastating and diverse effects of climate change and adapt to its negative effects, while highlighting Iraq's climate policy represented by the National Contributions Document (NDC) that was submitted to the Paris Agreement for Climate Change."
