NCSC and JEPCO Collaborate to Boost Cybersecurity in Jordan’s Electricity Sector

Amman: National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) and Jordanian Electric Power Company Limited (JEPCO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing joint cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. This collaboration seeks to improve cyber readiness and protect the digital infrastructure within Jordan's electricity sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, the memorandum was signed by NCSC Director General MohammEd Smadi and JEPCO Director General Hassan Abdullah. During the signing ceremony, Smadi highlighted that the agreement is part of the center's broader efforts to establish a comprehensive national cybersecurity system by partnering with institutions in vital sectors. This initiative aims to safeguard digital systems and services while enhancing the ability to confront increasing cyber threats.

Smadi emphasized that the partnership with JEPCO is focused on exchanging expertise and knowledge, developing human capacity, and collaborating on risk assessment, cyber incident response, and the application of best practices and national standards in cybersecurity.

Abdullah reiterated that cybersecurity is a top priority for JEPCO. This commitment is driven by the need to protect digital systems and critical infrastructure, ensuring the reliable and efficient continuation of services. The MoU is framed as a strategic partnership to leverage national expertise in developing the cybersecurity system and elevate preparedness against cyber threats, aligning with best practices and standards in the field.

The agreement outlines cooperation in several areas, including exchanging information on cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure, particularly in the electricity sector. It also includes implementing joint cybersecurity exercises and conducting security assessments of information technology and operational technology networks. The statement further noted that the collaboration will focus on smart metering systems and the exchange of experiences, opinions, ideas, and proposals on common cybersecurity issues.
