Oil and Environment minister attends Climate Ambition Summit

Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Dainah, the Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, attended the Climate Ambition Summit held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York.

Bahrain's participation in this summit came to underline its commitment to achieving set goals to mitigate climate change, the minister said.

The kingdom aims to reach zero neutrality by 2060; conducting the National Plan Afforestation (Forever Green) to double the number of trees in Bahrain and quadrupling the number of mangrove trees by 2035, he explained.

The minister said that the future net-zero economy depended on pushing humanity to entirely new frontiers to ensure that everyone can partake as producers and consumers.

He noted that Bahrain continued to develop policies and legislation that protect the environment and its resources, help improve the climate and environmental situation in the country and alleviate the impact of rapidly occurring climate changes.

The Climate Ambition Summit aimed at accelerating collective efforts of all stakeholders, and the pace and scale of a just transition to a more equitable renewable-energy based, climate-resilient global economy.

The three tracks the summit focused on are: ambition, credibility and implementation
