Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Monem Odat said on Monday that Jordan is firm and strong in its positions and in confronting all kinds of challenges, particularly as the region is at a historic juncture that necessitates the highest level of solidarity and cohesion "to fortify our internal front and strengthen the common denominators between us, ensuring that Jordan remains an impregnable fortress." Odat gave his remarks during a meeting with Secretary-General of the Labor Party, Rula Al-Hroub, and a number of the party's leaders and representatives in the Lower House to discuss the priorities of political and party work in light of the developments in the region. Odat said that His Majesty King Abdullah's positions represent the national consensus towards the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on their land, with Jerusalem as its capital. He added that "Jordan stands united in supporting ou r people in Palestine and in strengthening the Kingdom's capabilities to face all the possibilities resulting from the current situation in the region." He explained that "our political, economic, and administrative processes are part of an integrated process that we insist on moving forward, regardless of the existing circumstances and challenges," noting that "political parties and forces are able to shoulder the responsibilities of this stage, according to the national consensus behind our Hashemite leadership." For her part, Al-Hroub said that the party stands with Jordan in all its honorable positions towards the Palestinian cause and the brutal aggression against the Palestinians and Lebanon, and that the King's positions in international forums express the hopes and aspirations of all Jordanians. "We are concerned with Jordan's stability and security, and stand behind His Majesty the King's vision of political modernization," she added, calling for continued dialogue on the modernization process, re considering the financial funding system for parties, encouraging party mergers and coalition formation, raising the minimum wage, increasing the university student fund allocations, and working on comprehensive health insurance for Jordanians. MP Mohammed al-Jarrah called for strengthening the presence of youth and women in political life and party work, and consolidating the concepts of national belonging to be the common denominator among the parties. For his part, MP Qasim al-Beqaei said that the electoral law provided an opportunity for parties to enter parliament, calling for believing in the state's discourse and restoring Jordanians' confidence in their institutions.
