Basman palace: Prince El Hassan bin Talal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies, met with a high-level delegation of parliamentarians and members of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy at Basman Palace.
According to Jordan News Agency, Prince El Hassan welcomed delegations and parliamentarians from 13 countries, highlighting the significance of the meeting in the context of the Levant's current geopolitical shifts. He emphasized the need for renewed reflection on identity, borders, and shared cultures to enhance societal resilience and tackle emerging challenges.
Prince El Hassan pointed out the integral role of Eastern Christianity in the region's heritage, emphasizing that the Levant's future relies on land, identities, and migrations. He stressed that ongoing injustice and lack of equity create fertile conditions for extremism. He advocated for building peace through acknowledging others, respecting differences, and engaging in comprehensive intellectual dialogue to preserve the region's social fabric.
He further stated that protecting human dignity is crucial for stability, and that dialogue among societal components is necessary for human security. Attendees appreciated Jordan's efforts under King Abdullah II's leadership to foster mutual understanding among religions and peoples, commending the Kingdom's role in protecting the Christian presence and defending coexistence values.
The conference concluded with a call to continue efforts to consolidate shared values among the Levant's peoples, safeguard the Christian presence, and promote dialogue for a more stable and humane future. The meeting coincided with the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy conference in Jordan, highlighting Jordan's role as a land of peace and interfaith coexistence.
