Irbid: The Ministry of Public Works and Housing on Sunday initiated the installation of speed bumps, road markings, and traffic signs along Petroleum Road in Irbid Governorate, with the objective of reducing traffic accidents, controlling speeding, and ensuring the safety of road users.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry released a statement indicating its commitment to improving the condition of the road, despite it not being under their jurisdiction. Originally constructed in the mid-20th century for the Tapline project, the road serves as a connection between the districts of Koura, Northern Ghor, Taybeh, Bani Ubaid, and the city center of Irbid.
The statement highlighted that the road has previously undergone widening from three to eight meters and has been regularly equipped with warning signs and traffic markings. However, the ministry noted that there are no specific indicators or figures showing a higher rate of accidents on this road compared to others. Traffic studies reveal that most accidents are attributed to speeding and improper overtaking.
Further developments include the installation of speed cameras in the near future to curb speeding and accidents. Additionally, a roundabout is planned to be constructed under the 2026 budget at the "Petroleum Triangle," also known as "Al-Jaabi Triangle," to facilitate traffic flow and enhance road safety.
