Amman: Save the Children Jordan launched a project Saturday to combat child labor through providing support services for working children and their families.

According to Jordan News Agency, the "Safe and Sustainable Pathways" project was introduced at Al-Beira Charitable Association in Aira and Yarqa. The initiative is implemented in partnership with the Justice Center for Legal Aid and funded by the European Regional Development and Protection Programme (RDPP).

Balqa Governor Salman Al-Najada, speaking at the launch, emphasized that "child labor is a dangerous phenomenon with severe consequences for our society," and noted that the project aligns with Royal directives for social development.

The project aims to operate in three areas: Eastern Amman, the Central Jordan Valley in Balqa, and Irbid. It focuses on both Jordanian and Syrian refugee children who are working or at risk of child labor, particularly in sectors such as begging, waste collection, and agricultural work.

Programs Director Sana Hayari stated that Save the Children Jordan will collaborate with local associations to provide essential services, including case management, mental health support, legal aid, and community awareness initiatives. The project also plans to offer financial assistance to families to help return working children to formal education, covering costs for transportation, school supplies, and meals.
