Amman: Shadowbox Studios has entered into a strategic partnership with Olivewood Film Studios, Jordan's pioneering specialized studio complex for filmmaking, to manage its operations effectively. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the growth of Olivewood, which was completed in 2023 as the first purpose-built facility of its kind in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, Shadowbox Studios, which owns the Shadowbox Atlanta site and the substantial Shinfield Studios facility in the UK, is expanding its reach under the leadership of new COO Mike Mosallam. The studio aims to share its expertise with third-party studios, assisting them in either establishing or managing their studio complexes.
Located in Amman, Olivewood Film Studios boasts two soundstages and a backlot. Raja Gargour, Chairman of Olivewood, emphasized the studio's strategic location in Jordan, which has become a prime destination for filming in the MENA region. The country has hosted major productions, including Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" and "Dune 2," JJ Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise Of Skywalker," and Guy Ritchie's "Aladdin."
Gargour highlighted Jordan's rich film production history, dating back to the early 1960s with the filming of "Lawrence of Arabia." He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Shadowbox, which he believes will enhance Olivewood's appeal to international filmmakers.
Jumana Sharbin, General Manager of Olivewood, noted the importance of Shadowbox's global expertise in bolstering Olivewood's operations. She stressed that their collaboration is a pivotal step in delivering world-class productions in Jordan.
Mike Mosallam, who joined Shadowbox earlier this year following roles at Apple TV+ and Netflix, recognized the potential of Olivewood's infrastructure during a visit to Jordan last year. He believes that with the addition of sound stages, Jordan is well-equipped to support both domestic and international productions of varying scales.
