Madrid: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced on Monday a series of stringent measures against Israel, citing the ongoing "genocide in Gaza" as the impetus for these actions. The measures aim to address what Sanchez described as severe human rights violations against Palestinians.

According to Jordan News Agency, Sanchez delivered a televised address condemning Israel's military operations in Gaza, which he claims have resulted in the deaths of 63,000 people and widespread malnutrition. He emphasized Spain's position in seeking to mitigate the suffering of Palestinians and stressed the importance of being "on the right side of history" during what he termed "one of the most shameful episodes."

Sanchez accused the Israeli military of transforming their operations into an "illegal occupation" of Palestinian territory and launching "unjustified attacks" on civilians. He noted that these actions have been characterized as genocide by the UN special rapporteur and numerous experts.

The announced measures include a royal decree that immediately bans the sale and purchase of arms with Israel. Additionally, Spanish ports will be closed to ships carrying weapons destined for Israel, and Spanish airspace will be off-limits to aircraft transporting defense materials for the country. The sanctions extend further to prohibit individuals directly involved in what Spain terms the "genocide" from entering Spanish territory and restrict consular services for residents of illegal Israeli settlements.
