Aqaba: The Public Security Directorate confirmed that a sulfuric acid vapor leak at a factory in Aqaba caused multiple injuries in the surrounding area.
According to Jordan News Agency, the PSD spokesperson said that specialized teams from the Aqaba Civil Defense Directorate, supported by the Aqaba Support Group, received a report of the leak, which produced a cloud covering approximately 400 square meters. Emergency teams transported 33 individuals suffering from respiratory distress to hospitals, including two admitted to intensive care.
The factory's technical team responded immediately to contain the leak. Upon arrival, the Hazardous Materials Unit of the Civil Defense implemented operational protocols using the latest equipment and technologies. Specialized medical teams provided first aid before transferring the injured to nearby hospitals.
Authorities from the Public Security Directorate, in coordination with other relevant agencies, launched an investigation to determine the cause of the leak. Gas measurements at the site showed levels within the normal range.
