Damascus: The Syrian Defense Ministry announced that three soldiers were injured in an attack by the SDF in the Aleppo countryside of northern Syria. The ministry stated that SDF drones targeted a military police checkpoint near army deployment points in the vicinity of Deir Hafer, east of Aleppo. The attack resulted in damage to two military vehicles.
According to Anadolu Agency - English, the Syrian army plans to respond to the attack "in an appropriate manner," but no further details were provided. The state-run Alikhbaria TV, citing an unnamed military source, reported that the Syrian army targeted the launch points of the SDF drones in the vicinity of Deir Hafir in eastern Aleppo, suggesting that the army's response will be limited. The broadcaster indicated that the SDF drone attack led to more than six injuries among civilians and military police.
The attack coincides with reports from Alikhbaria TV that meetings took place on Sunday in Damascus with the SDF, attended by its commander Mazloum Abdi, to discuss the implementation of a March 10, 2025 agreement. The meetings reportedly did not yield tangible results. The SDF, dominated by the YPG, the Syrian branch of the PKK, has been accused by Syrian authorities of failing to meet the terms of the agreement, which aimed to integrate the SDF into state institutions while reaffirming Syria's territorial unity and rejecting division attempts.
