Aleppo: The Syrian army announced Sunday that it detained eight individuals associated with the former Baath regime as they attempted to cross into areas controlled by the PKK/YPG terrorist group, which operates under the name SDF in Syria.
According to Anadolu Agency - English, the arrests took place during an operation near Deir Hafir in Aleppo governorate. This information was released in a statement from the Syrian Defense Ministry's Media and Communications Directorate, as reported by the state-run SANA news agency.
Since the ouster of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024, Syria's new administration has undertaken economic and political reforms aimed at enhancing conditions throughout the country. Assad, who led Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia following his ouster, marking the end of the Baath Party regime that had been in power since 1963.
A new transitional administration led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa was established in January 2025.
