Toddler’s Life Saved After Object Removed from Airway

Balqa: A one-and-a-half-year-old toddler was rushed to a civil defense center in the Balqa Governorate after a stone became lodged in his airway, requiring immediate first-aid measures to save his life.

According to Jordan News Agency, the foreign object was successfully removed from the child's throat at the Zayy and Allan center, allowing him to breathe again. Following this, the child was transferred to Al-Salt Government Hospital for further observation.

Colonel Majali noted that foreign body aspiration is a risk for both children and adults, emphasizing that the human body cannot tolerate a cessation of breathing for more than three minutes. He highlighted ongoing efforts to educate the public through lectures and awareness sessions, which are frequently conducted in associations and schools. These sessions aim to provide guidance on handling such incidents, focusing on techniques for opening the airway in cases of suffocation, whether due to eating in adults or playing with small objects in children.

Additionally, Colonel Majali mentioned that civil defense centers across the Kingdom have heightened their preparedness with the arrival of summer. This proactive measure aims to reduce response times in light of the seasonal increase in incidents such as grassfires, snakebites, and drownings.
