Irbid:West Irbid Municipality (WIM) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) have entered into two significant agreements totaling £919,000. These agreements are part of the Cash for Green Services program, aimed at manufacturing waste containers, upgrading the municipality's factory, and creating local job opportunities.
According to Jordan News Agency, Municipal Committee Chairman Mohammad Qudah highlighted that these agreements are designed to enhance environmental services and generate employment in alignment with the municipality's strategic plan for 2024-2028.
The first agreement, valued at £315,000, focuses on providing raw materials for the production of 900 waste containers at the municipality's metal and concrete products factory. It includes the hiring of 20 blacksmiths for three months and factory upgrades to boost production capacity. Qudah emphasized that this local production would address the municipality's waste management needs, enhance public cleanliness, and create jobs for skilled workers in the region.
The second agreement, worth £604,000, aims to employ 60 workers in three-month cycles over a 16-month period, thus offering rotational job opportunities to local residents. This initiative facilitates paid employment in environmental activities, contributing to improved municipal services and household incomes.
Qudah further noted that the municipality's factory, accredited by the Royal Scientific Society, not only supplies waste containers to other municipalities but has also been visited by GIZ delegations to assess its operations. He reaffirmed the municipality's dedication to implementing both projects on schedule, thereby improving environmental services and expanding employment opportunities across its districts.
These agreements are part of the municipality's broader efforts to fortify cooperation with international development partners and enhance local waste management services.
