Yemeni Forces Repel Houthi Attacks Near Strategic Strait

Taiz:Yemeni government forces reported on Saturday that they had successfully thwarted a Houthi attack north of Dhubab Airport, located near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in southwestern Yemen.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Giants Brigades released a statement on social media platform X, indicating that the Houthis suffered substantial losses in both personnel and equipment during the confrontation, although no further details were provided.

The defensive action coincided with airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition targeting Houthi reinforcements. State-run Aljoumhouriya TV reported that these airstrikes hit Houthi positions on Mt. Al-Jahili, which overlooks the Hayjat Al-Abed road in rural Taiz, as well as positions in Naqil Al-Hissa in the Hawra Samea area of Taiz.

Meanwhile, the Taiz Military Axis Media Center noted that government forces and Popular Resistance fighters were actively engaging Houthi attacks on both the eastern front of Taiz city and the Kalaba front northeast of the city. Additionally, government forces reportedly repelled another Houthi offensive on the Al-Aqrud front south of Taiz.

The Houthis have yet to comment on these reports. This escalation is part of a larger wave of clashes in Yemen, which began in July and marks the most intense period of fighting since a truce was established in April 2022. The conflict in Yemen erupted after the Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several other provinces in September 2014, leading to the intervention of a Saudi-led coalition in March 2015 in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government.
